In the winter of 2007 I was approached by dancer & choreographer Carol Burnham to do a collaborative work with her and the Windhover Dance Company of Rockport Massachusetts. Carol had designed & choreographed and extremely beautiful & personal piece centered on the various important relationships a woman has with those closest to her as she goes through life. I was asked to create three Liquid Silver Prints for the stage production which opened in the spring of 2007. After some initial back & forth, we began to zero in on some images, the center piece of which Carol inspired as it was a recurring element in the dance. I shot this image in my studio using Carol’s, her daughter’s & my mother-in-law’s hands (who incedently did the sewing of the silk borders for each panel). This was a wonderful project to see come to fruition. As I rarely collaborate, it was a pleasure to watch Carol’s work bloom around the pieces I created for her & Windhover. Her clarity made my job relatively easy as her unique vision gave me everything I needed, all I had to do was to bring to the physical realm that which she so clearly imagined.
