Painted in egg tempera, each panel measures 28” x 39”. The client specifically requested imagery using Guan Yin, the bodhisattva of mercy ‘Hearer of the Cries of the World’. I was to depict the bodhisattva at a moment of grace, a moment of peace. Slightly worn from her duties she spends a moment with a lotus by the river’s edge. Working in egg tempera on this scale proved to be a challenge, but the luminosity of the medium suited the image too well to do it any other way.
