Café Un Deux Trois was an ongoing project for close to a decade. My services were first hired to maintain the beautifully painted murals, originally created in 1976. Over time the walls decayed, a side effect of both the incredibly busy Times Square business and the century old building. In 2003 I was hired full time to give the entire restaurant a top to bottom overhaul. The idea was to leave the initial concept while giving it a more mature, intimate and contemporary look.
The refurbishing of Café Un Deux Trois took four months, and was executed entirely after hours. Our crew set to work each evening just after midnight, installing scaffolding that would come down each day. We repaired and removed pounds of olds plaster and eventually brought the room a look that surpassed its original splendor.
The Café seats over 200,000 people a year, with many of them loyal repeat customers. The broad client base was thrilled with the new look and felt that the restaurant gained new life after our job was completed.
